Cliff’s Ice Cream as we know it was founded by Cliff Freund in 1975 (47 years ago) with the name Cliff’s Dairymaid. But that is not when this ice cream heaven’s history began. Its history at this location goes all the way back to the 1940’s where it was a walk-up soft serve ice cream stand called Williams. Since then, it has had several owners most recently Cliff Freund’s son Peter Freund who took over running this business in 1995. Along with his wife Melissa and brother Dave, they have increased flavor choices to over 70 soft and hard ice cream options. They have also evolved the business model to include concessions and corporate catering.
Most recently Cliff’s received national recognition in 2020 as the best ice cream in New Jersey by the Daily Meal. This community staple has received at least 7 other awards for their flavors in recent history, as well as been featured on The Food Networks program “Top Five.”
Cliff’s Ice Cream’s ever-increasing support in the community does not go unnoticed either, with the “reading for a skyscraper” program in our schools, constant presence at our local community events, and the consistent donation to our local organizations. We thank you for all that you do to make Roxbury a sweet place to live. We look forward to new flavors in the future and for generations to come.
